Celebrating 20+ Years of Media Leadership

Warning: this is a fluff post!

Reading and books have been a passion for most of my life. I buy them! I read them! I horde them! I check them out! I remember being so proud of my first library card.... five years old and clutching that little blue card with the metal plate as I selected books with my dad each Saturday. Heh. That was a long time ago. Books have stayed with me (Literally! Last time I moved I had half a UHaul full.)

I was thrilled to work as the Special Orders clerk for Borders from 2000 to 2003. I got to handle books, and read books, and recommend books and order books, and hook people up with thousands of good reads. I worked with a stellar crew and made connections with many good people at publishing houses and our distributors. But something was lacking.

Then I got a job with the University of Georgia Libraries, in the technical processing area of the serials department receiving journals and other periodicals. In 2004 I got involved with electronic resources - setting up and monitoring access to online resources. That's when I decided that I simply had to get serious. Still, it took another two years before I got into a masters program.

I graduate in December from the MLIS program at Florida State University. I already work for an academic library and I feel that I am in a good position to meet my career goal. Budget willing I will soon follow graduation with a new official position as a librarian.
